I've recently inherited this pre-existing group on Flickr, and though that it would be a nice one to share with the Webring community, and conversely, that Webring would be a nice thing to share with the members of the group. The criteria for the photos in the pool are simple ones, as they should be: are we looking at more or less family friendly photos that were taken between the spring equinox and the summer solstice? These should be defined according to the seasons in the location in which they are taken, so no, you can't take a snapshot of the icicles growing on your Minnesota windowsill in Mid December, on the basis that it is still late spring in Argentina. If, however, you can shoot those same icicles in mid June, you have my interest, and my sympathy, but still not necessarily my approval. One has to look at the photo and have some sense that what one is seeing is Spring. Snow under the green leaves is pleasant, interesting and highly acceptable, but branches bare late into the season, under the weight of a prolonged snow, are not. What I do welcome is expansion on topics. Writing about the species that appear in your photographs is not required, but appreciated and encouraged. Poetry about Nature ... Keats might give you a few ideas ... is welcome, discussion of Spring weather patterns, ... really, almost anything about spring, as long as you leave the religious and political debates out of this. I know about the Christian festival that takes place in this season. If you want to talk about making easter eggs, or about cultural traditions surrounding Easter or some other holiday from something like a neutral, encylopedic point of view as far as religious issues are concerned, that's fine. I'm not going to go ballistic over a little red dye or a piece of unleavened bread. But if I start hearing talk about salvation, I'm going to be annoyed, not because people are talking about salvation, but because they're doing in the wrong place, and that's just rude. Seasonal recipes will be welcome on this group, though I'm not sure if they would have been in the past, as long as they are ones suited to spring, made with first fruits and young vegetables. Probably not a lot of salad, unless one is in the subtropics, but probably lighter fare. I'm not going to give you a lot of rules, but relative to what is seen in my other groups, probably not a lot of patience. You're hearing this from somebody who has banned a grand total of one active member in his entire time on Flickr, and for spamming at that, so I'm not likely to be swinging the axe too wildly, but if one can't be nice on a group for sharing pictures of spring flowers, rainbows and boiled vegetables, where can one be? So, I will expect people to behave themselves, and leave their troubles at the door. This is not the place for that. Let's continue on to the group. |
